Inception
Asivune means 'let us harvest' in SiSwati. The idea for this guide came about in the context of the coronavirus pandemic of 2020. In response to an unprecedented planet-wide health crisis, governments around the world instituted strict restrictions on movement within and between national borders. After several weeks, it became clear that the economic impact of these lockdowns would be severe, impacting low income communities the hardest. In urban areas, many people without the means or opportunity to work from home were left without any means of generating income. Asivune was conceived as a resource to help build a path to food security for urban dwellers, by providing knowledge on cultivation in the limited space of urban areas.
Mission
The goal of Asivune is to be a reliable and useful resource for practical urban agriculture, accessible to anyone.
